MAC SAAC BY-LAWS

I.    Purpose/ Mission:

The MAC Student-athlete Advisory Committee (MAC SAAC) was formed to provide our student-athletes the opportunity to take an active role in the governance and legislation of our Conference.  Our members are an open communication link between the student-athletes at their respective schools and the administration of our Conference.  We attempt to educate each other through our thoughts and viewpoints on the activities of the Conference and the NCAA as well as the active roles we take on our campuses.  Our athletic participation and our involvement in this committee enhance our collegiate experience.

II.    Composition:

Each institution is entitled to have two voting delegates from their individual Student-athlete advisory committee on the MAC SAAC.  Preferably one male and one female, not of the same academic class and who have completed their freshman year.

III.    Meetings:

The MAC SAAC shall meet at least twice during the academic year and should be attended by all institutional representatives.  If for any reason a representative is unable to attend a meeting then a substitute should be sent.  If possibly, our meetings will coincide with scheduled meetings of our Conference.  Otherwise, meeting dates, sites, and times will be decided by the advisors of the committee.

IV.    Officers:

The committee shall elect all officer positions of the MAC SAAC.  Officer positions will consist of a president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary.  Each officer election will be held every two years at our scheduled spring meeting.  The president is responsible for presiding over the meetings agenda.  in the absence of the president the vice president will take over that role.  The treasurer is to budget an account of all monetary activities of the committee.  Minutes for each meeting will be kept by the secretary and be distributed to the delegates via email.

V.    Voting

To take a vote fifty percent of the institutions must be present and only two delegates from each school will be allowed to vote.  Each representative will have a single vote on all committee issued.  For a motion to pass over fifty percent of the present voter must be in favor of the motion. If there are any pressing issues which must be decided on before the next meeting then it will be the officer's and the advisor's job to decided on the issue with regards to the opinions of the committee members.

VI.        Sportsmanship Award:

Each team (fall/winter/spring) at each school will vote for an opposing team to win the award.  Campus SAAC officers will tally the votes and send their top three nominations to the Conference administrative office for both male and female sports teams.  If a school does not send in any nominations they will be ineligible for the award.  All nominations must be received in the office by April fifteenth of that year.

VII.     Subcommittees:

Subcommittees will be ad-hoc committees.  A subcommittee will be established to oversee an issue that needs more focus than the time out meetings provide.  MAC SAAC members may volunteer to be on a subcommittee and may have to meet for additional meetings at their discretion.
