2009 Men's Tennis All-Conference Teams

The MASCAC Office has released the men’s tennis All-Conference teams for 2009 as selected by conference coaches. For the Commonwealth Conference, Elizabethtown’s Manrique Arrea and Messiah’s Jansen Hein have been awarded Co-Players of the Year. Lebanon Valley’s Cliff Myers has been named Coach of the Year and Arrea has also been selected as the Rookie of the Year.

Heading into the MASCAC individual tournament, Arrea has a record of 14-1 at #1 singles and 13-6 in doubles play. No other player has been awarded Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season. Hein led his squad with a record of 12-4 at #1 singles and 14-3 in doubles action. Last season Hein was a second team All-Conference selection and Rookie of the Year.

Myers is a five-time Coach of the Year, and his men’s team has won six Commonwealth Conferences titles. Myers’ will guide his team to their first ever NCAA tournament appearance.

Julian Oribe of Manhattanville was awarded the Freedom Conference Player of the Year. Oribe’s teammate Imran Choudhury has been selected as Rookie of the Year. Freedom Coach of the Year honors goes to Chris Leicht of Wilkes.

Oribe ended the year with a singles record of 17-6 and 20-5 in doubles. He was named Player of the Week twice. Oribe helped lead his team to the tournament championship match where they fell 5-3 to Wilkes. Oribe is a two time All-Conference first team selection.

Repeating as Coach of the Year, Leicht has led his team to back-to-back tournament championships.
Leicht has guided his squad to an 85-29 record over the past seven years. Last season the Colonels qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

Choudhury posted an incredible record of 19-2 in singles play and 15-6 in doubles in his first season of conference play. Chourdhury is quickly establishing himself as one of the dominate players in the conference for the future.
