2009 Softball All-Conference Teams

The MASCAC Office has released the softball All-Conference teams for 2009 as selected by conference coaches. Messiah College has swept the Commonwealth Conference awards. Lindsay Hall has been awarded Player of the Year, Jaclyn Merkel has been selected as Rookie of the Year, Jessica Rhoads was tabbed Pitcher of the Year and Amy Weaver has been named Coach of the Year.
Junior Lindsay Hall will lead her Falcon squad into the NCAA Tournament as they look to continue their success. Hall had a fine season at third base batting .441 with 45 hits. As a freshman, Jaclyn Merkel led the team in batting with a .460 average and pounding out 58 hits. Rhoads has also enjoyed early success as a freshman with a record of 20-1 and an ERA of 0.49. Rhoads has pitched 142 innings and only allowing 33 hits. Coach Weaver has been named Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her 11 seasons at Messiah. She also received NCAA Division III Regional Coach of the Year honors in 1999.
Repeating as Player of the Year is Gina Stefanelli of Wilkes. Katie Morrissey has been selected as Rookie of the Year. Lindsay Hoerner of King’s has been awarded Pitcher of the Year and Lisa Gigliello of King’s has been named Coach of the Year.
Gina Stefanelli proved once again why she is the best player in the league with a .424 batting average and knocking out 53 hits, with seven of those hits being home runs. Stefanelli had a team high 37 RBIs. Katie Morrissey enjoyed a fine freshman campaign earning a 14-6 record at the mound. Morrissey pitched 139.1 innings with an ERA of 1.96. Lindsay Hoerner was dominating on the mound with a 16-6 record and a 1.95 ERA. Hoerner also got the job done at the plate batting .308 with 20 hits. Coach Gigiello is in her 15th season as King’s head coach and has been named Coach of the Year for the second time in her career. She will look to guide her team into the NCAA Tournament where they will be looking to build off their success in the Freedom Conference Tournament.
