2009 Baseball All-Conference Teams

The Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation conference office has announced the baseball All-Conference teams.

Elizabethtown’s Adam Sheibley has been awarded Player of the Year; Jason Ferrie of Widener has been selected as Rookie of the Year and Sam Heaps of Elizabethtown was tabbed as Pitcher of the Year. Cliff Smith of Elizabethtown has been honored by being named Coach of the Year.

Sheibley led the league with 40 stolen bases and had a team leading 35 RBI’s. Named Rookie of the Year his freshman season, Sheibley is a two-time First Team All-Conference selection.

Heaps earns back-to-back Pitcher of the Year honors. He takes his 6-2 record with a 2.47 ERA and looks to help lead his team as they make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. At the plate Heaps batted .388 with a team leading 50 hits.

Ferrie ended his freshman campaign with a perfect 5-0 record, 58 strikeouts and a 3.05 ERA.

In Smith’s three seasons at Elizabethtown, he has guided the team to its 1,000th all-time victory, two Commonwealth Conference titles and two NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

Manhattanville’s Stephen Pinto has been awarded Player of the Year, Matt Ruch of Wilkes has been selected as Rookie of the Year and Shane Zellers of Alvernia was tabbed as Pitcher of the Year. Jeff Caulfield of Manhattanville has been honored by being named Coach of the Year.

Pinto is a two-time Freedom Conference first-team selection and earned first-team All-Skyline Conference honors in his sophomore season. He enters the Freedom Conference Tournament with a .396 batting average and team leading 61 hits and 30 stolen bases.

Ruch ended a fine freshman campaign with a .379 batting average and a team leading 58 hits and second with seven homeruns. Ruch led his team to an overall 28-11 record and the second spot in the Freedom Conference Tournament.

Zellers and his teammates ended their first regular season in the Freedom Conference with a record of 25-15 and the third spot in the Conference Tournament. On the mound Zellers finished with an 8-3 record and a 2.75 ERA giving up only 61 hits over 72 innings.

Caulfield is in his fifth season at the helm of the Valiants. He is a two-time Skyline Conference Coach of the Year. In the team’s first season in the Freedom Conference in 2008, he guided his team to regular season champs for the second consecutive season and also earned a berth in the Freedom Conference Championship game.
