GLENSIDE, PA: 6/22/09 - Erin Livingston, of Philadelphia, has been named head coach of field hockey at Arcadia University, athletic director Shirley Liddle has announced. Livingston brings to the Knights a wealth of both playing and coaching experience at the Division II and III levels, most recently serving as the graduate assistant at Kean University from 2006-2009.

While at Kean, Livingston helped to guide the Cougars to a 36-18 overall mark, including a record breaking 17 win season in 2008 that was capped off by winning the ECAC Mid-Atlantic DIII Field Hockey Championship, a 3-2 overtime win over Catholic University. She also served two, one-season assistant coaching stints for the softball and women’s lacrosse programs at Kean and was Philadelphia University’s assistant softball coach during the 2005 season.

Livingston was a member of the field hockey and softball teams at Kutztown University during the four year span of 2001-2005. A three year starter on defense, Livingston holds the career record for defensive saves at Kutztown with 23. She also garnered several accolades as she was named National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) First Team All-American in 2004 and Second Team All-American in 2003. Livingston excelled off the field as well, as she was named to the NFHCA All-Academic Squad in 2003 and in 2005 was named the Kutztown University Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Livingston, a three sport student-athlete at Archbishop Carroll High School in Radnor, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education with a concentration in coaching and math from Kutztown University and a Master of Arts degree in special education from Kean.

“I’m truly excited to begin my first head coaching position at the college level here at Arcadia,” boasts Livingston. “Through recruiting, it is my goal to build this program to be a competitive mainstay in the Commonwealth Conference. While it is also my goal to improve both our overall and conference wins, the academic success of my team is of equal importance. The field hockey team at Arcadia traditionally has one of the highest team GPA’s year in and year out, and so, hard-work and time management seem to be already instilled in them. I will look for the first year players to follow in the academic successes of the current team members while we, together, turn this program into a competitor among our Commonwealth opponents.”

Livingston steps in after former coach Colleen Carney who resigned in May. Carney guided the team for two seasons where the Knights went 10-26 and winless in conference play.
