A Hall of Fame career has come to an end as Charlotte Slocum has announced her retirement as head softball coach at Misericordia University.
In 30 seasons at the helm, Slocum compiled a career record of 676-307 for a .688 winning percentage.
She ranks fifth all-time in NCAA Division III in victories and 29th in winning percentage.
Since taking the reigns of the Misericordia program in 1981, Slocum and her team’s never suffered a losing season while compiling 10 years of 30 or more wins and nine more with 20-plus victories.
The Cougars won six Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championships and made 13 consecutive appearances in the PAC title game from 1996-2008.
Misericordia earned two NCAA Championships berths and notched the first NCAA Tournament win in school history in 2005.
In addition, Misericordia claimed four ECAC titles in 11 appearances, including back-to-back championships in 2008 and 2009.
After enjoying tremendous success coaching her daughters, Cindy and Susie, during their youth softball careers, the Slocums continued the family affair at Misericordia.
Susie was a standout player for the Cougars while Cindy and her brother Ernie both served as long-time assistants to their mother.
“I was truly blessed to have the opportunity to coach so many wonderful young women and make an impact on their lives,” said Slocum. “I was also fortunate to have the support of my family to be able to do something that I loved for so long. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.”
Slocum was inducted into Misericordia’s first Athletics Hall of Fame class in 2003 and has since been joined by five former players. She was also inducted into the Luzerne County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
“It certainly was an honor to be selected to the Misericordia Hall of Fame,” said Slocum. “It was also extremely gratifying to be the part of the induction of so many of my former players. We developed so many friendships that go beyond softball and we will always have so many wonderful memories.”
