ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley College has promoted Joy Graeff to be its new head coach of women's tennis, Athletic Director Rick Beard '90 M'92 has announced. Graeff had been an assistant coach for LVC since 2000.

Graeff takes over for the recently retired Cliff Myers, who will reverse roles and stay on as an assistant to Graeff. She inherits a team that is the defending Commonwealth Conference champion and has gone 36-8 over the past two seasons. Graeff will be only the second head coach in the history of the program since its inception in 1994.

"I am truly thrilled that Cliff and I can continue to coach together," Graeff said. "I love working with the student-athletes, and I appreciate their dedication and love for the sport."

Graeff, a 1997 graduate of Lycoming College, is an experienced player and instructor. An assistant with the LVC women since 2000 and the men since 2002, Graeff has helped both programs excel, culminating with both squads winning Commonwealth Conference titles and going to the NCAA tournament in 2009. During her time as an assistant, the women's team has a 102-65 record and the men have gone 90-58.

"I'm happy to have Joy continue to be involved with our women's tennis program," Beard said. "Her experience with the team and enthusiasm for coaching will help keep LVC women's tennis among the premier programs in the conference."

Graeff attended Lower Dauphin High School and played for Peggy Long before going on to be a four-year letterwinner at No. 1 and 2 singles at Lycoming. After graduation, she spent two years as the head coach at Garden Spot High School before joining the LVC staff. She has been an instructor for 13 years and is a USPTA-certified pro.

An avid player, Graeff recently led her team to the 4.0 national championship and currently plays locally at 4.5. Ironically, Graeff was coached by Myers growing up, and the two went on to play together and win several local mixed doubles championships. Graeff's husband, Dave Remsburg, has also been a volunteer assistant coach with the LVC men's team since 2002.

LVC is scheduled to open its season Sept. 12 with a home match against the University of Scranton.
